Beaver students awarded for participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Penn State Beaver’s Health Center and campus nurse Barb Kugel hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness poster contest the week of October 20-24. Ten campus students designed posters around this month’s theme of “Hope is My Superpower.”

First place was awarded to the poster created by Ceanne Taylor, freshman, agriculture, Sharon; Jensen Cousins, freshman, agriculture, McKees Rocks; and Megan Kauth, freshman, liberal arts, Wall, NJ. Second place went to Ruhiben Patel, sophomore, science, Pittsburgh; and third place winner was Maurissa Bergandy, freshman, Division of Undergraduate Studies, Beaver. Other poster participants were Julie Worst, freshman, agriculture, Butler; Radhika Navdiya, freshman, engineering, Bridgeville; Ella Bose, freshman, agriculture, Beaver Falls; Taylor Walton, freshman, science, Hookstown; and Ambien Bhagat, freshman, science, Monaca.

Each student received Penn State t-shirts and lanyards from the Penn State Beaver Bookstore for their participation in the event. More than 200 faculty, staff and students voted on the posters at a special lunchtime program held Wednesday, Oct. 22, which was designated “Pink Out Day,” in the Brodhead Bistro. In addition, visitors were also treated to Penn State cookies and smoothies provided courtesy of the Office of Housing and Food Services.
