UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- During the Shaping the Future Summit 2015 kickoff event, Penn State President Eric Barron said universities should deliberately drive economic development and student success.

To further explore this topic, the next Summit event, “The Power of Money: Your Career, Your Impact,” will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in Schwab Auditorium with a discussion between Penn State alumni Lauren Young and Andy Sieg. The two will be discussing the influence of the power of money on today’s economy and the impact on students’ future career paths.

Young, the Money editor for Thomson Reuters, is a 1989 honors graduate of Penn State and will serve as moderator for the event interviewing guest Sieg. In her current position, she provides coverage for both corporate and consumer audiences, delivering resources on personal finance, investment and wealth management.

Her background includes writing for BusinessWeek, Smart Money and the Wall Street Journal. She regularly makes appearances on NPR, CNN, MSNBC and the BBC.

Sieg is the Head of Global Wealth and Retirement Solutions (GWRS) for Bank of America Merrill Lynch and is a member of the Bank of America Operating Committee. GWRS works closely with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and the U.S. Trust, offering investment services, products, and retirement solution plans.

He graduated from Penn State in 1989 and received his master's degree from Harvard in public policy. Sieg previously served as an aide to the assistant to the president for economic and domestic policy in the White House.

Donna Meyer, coordinator of student programs for the Schreyer Honors College said, "The Shaping the Future Summit is important and complements the mission of the Schreyer Honors College. Every day, the college seeks to challenge students to be global leaders of integrity and promise.”

Meyer also shared that she hopes to announce the keynote speaker for the culminating summit event April 1.

Schreyer Honors College Coordinator of College Relations Beth Kocher Gormley said, “This speaker is a household name and will resonate with audiences across the University and local community. Without giving too much away, this person is a community-minded, business leader and philanthropist who has shown bravery and leadership throughout a successful and at times challenging, career.”

Meyer continued, “The summit gives students an opportunity to learn more about the challenges they may face as leaders in the future. We want them to not only think about the role they will play but how that role and their actions will impact the world. "

This event is free and open to interested students, faculty and community members. For more information, visit futuresummit.psu.edu or email futuresummit@psu.edu.
