UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Grand Canyon University faculty horn professor Rose French will present a masterclass for Penn State horn students at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in 112 Music Building I. Admission is free.
French has an exciting and diverse career as a professional musician and educator. She is professor of horn at Grand Canyon University (Arizona) and also serves as executive director of the Mill Ave. Chamber Players, a professional chamber ensemble that will perform more than 50 concerts during its 2014-15 season.
French has been a contributing artist at the International Horn Symposiums in London; Brisbane, Australia; and Cape Town, South Africa, where she won the Dorothy Frizelle International Horn Excerpt Competition. In the southwest, French serves as principal horn of the West Valley Symphony and performs with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera, Tucson Symphony, Flagstaff Symphony, Orquestra Sinfonica de Monterrey and the Orquestra de Baja California. She has toured China twice as principal horn of the American Festival Orchestra.
In addition to teaching at Grand Canyon University, French is on the faculty at Arizona State University, Phoenix College and Paradise Valley Community College. In 2013, she was a guest artist and chamber music coach at the Saarburg (Germany) International Chamber Music Festival and has taught at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
She serves as exhibits and advertising coordinator for the International Horn Society, maintains a private studio and teaches at Rosie's House, a nonprofit music academy providing free instruction and instruments to under-served youth. Her first horn technique book, "Rangesongs," was published by Mountain Peak Music, and her next publication will be released in spring 2015.
French completed her doctoral and master's degrees in horn performance at Arizona State University. She also holds degrees in music education, music technology and performance from Duquesne University (Pennsylvania).
