Love, like snow, the cold and mistletoe, is synonymous with the holiday season.

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie hopes to emphasize that love this winter through “Wondrous Love,” this year’s holiday concert from northwest Pennsylvania’s only comprehensive youth choral music program.

“Love has many faces, and is felt and expressed by human beings in many ways. The Appalachian folk hymn 'Wondrous Love' is specifically a reflection on the spiritual side of love and the holiday season, but our concert repertoire encompasses a variety of styles and sets up scenes both mystical and homey, joyful and reflective, romantic and platonic, solitary and communal,” said Gabrielle Dietrich, YPC’s artistic director. “Through this music, we hope to portray the mosaic of the human experience of love and remind ourselves and our listeners that love takes on many forms, and these forms surround us when we open our eyes and hearts to them.”

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 W. 38th St.

Dietrich will conduct the Concert Chorus, Young Men’s Ensemble and Chorale. Jeremy Flock will conduct the Cantare, YPC’s youngest chorus, and three YPC satellite groups: the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network, the Bethesda Trinity Center for Musical Expression and Leadership, and the Wayne School choir. All will perform during the concert.

YPC Erie is a youth outreach organization of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Tickets for “Wondrous Love” are available now. General admission is $10, and tickets for children ages 7-12 are $5. Children younger than 6 are admitted free.
