Palmer Museum of Art Community Day takes place Oct. 11

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa -- Volunteers and staff of the Palmer Museum of Art will be hosting their annual Community Day event at the museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. Live music, gallery talks, hands-on activities and refreshments will be offered to all for free.

Museum staff and docent volunteers will be available to answer questions and guide visitors through the museum's special exhibitions and permanent collection, T-shirts will be available on the plaza to decorate after visiting the galleries, Erin Condo and the Hoofties will perform in the galleries between noon and 2:30 p.m. and Berkey Creamery ice cream will be served in the museum's Christoffers Lobby.

Exhibitions on view at the museum this fall are the "Marcellus Shale Documentary Project" through Dec. 14, "Lanny Sommese: Image Maker" through Dec. 21 and "Henry Varnum Poor: Studies for the Land Grant Frescoes" through Dec. 21.

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is located on Curtin Road and admission is free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and some holidays.
