“As my eyes wander from the sky to the ground below, my mind is racing thinking of the projected colors. The melted colors of watercolor are by far my favorite.” -- Marci Evancho Mason

Artist Marci Evancho Mason brings color alive with a solo exhibit in the Penn State New Kensington Art Gallery. The show runs until Oct. 27.

An artist with a natural gift, Mason works in watercolors, her preferred medium. The show, "I Came ... I Saw ... I Painted X," features original paintings of a variety of subjects. She works from photographs given to her by friends and relatives. The X in the title represents her 10th solo exhibit.

“I began my artistry at a young age and formally and informally studied throughout the years,” said Mason, a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society. “My chosen field was not in art although I always enjoyed drawing, painting and crafts as a hobby.”

A resident of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, Mason’s exhibits have garnered a palette of awards, including the Eat'n Park Golden Sable for watercolor excellence and numerous Best of Show ribbons. Her commissioned paintings hang in corporate and private collections locally and nationally.

Mason teaches art at Trinity Christian School and adult watercolor classes in Monroeville, Regent Square, Turtle Creek, Penn-Trafford, Verona and Latrobe. In addition, she coaches private students and is a part-time dental assistant.

The exhibit is free to the public. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. weekends.
