Sports Illustrated writer to offer insight on storytelling

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Jack McAllum, author and long-time Sports Illustrated writer, is the second speaker in The Penn State Lehigh Valley student-run newspaper State of the Valley’s speaker series, "Be Heard: Advocacy, Storytelling and Creativity in the Digital Age." McAllum will share his insight on storytelling at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 in Room 302 at the campus in Center Valley. The event is free and open to the public.

McCallum of Hanover Township is a former newspaper reporter and was a long-time senior writer at Sports Illustrated where he is now a special contributor. He is the author of 10 books including "Dream Team," a New York Times best-seller, and "The Prostate Monologues," an account of his battle with prostate cancer. In 2005, he was elected into the writer's wing of the Basketball Hall of Fame. He teaches communications and writing at Muhlenberg College.

"As the student-led news source for our campus, State of the Valley's goal is to inform, entertain and inspire our readers to find common cause in their educations and campus activities," said Bob Gallagher, senior Corporate Communication major and managing editor of the paper. "This speaker series is offered to the campus and community as a means to highlight the ways that effective writing is important for all kinds of professions and purposes."
