Symphonic Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble perform Oct. 5

The Symphonic Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble perform their first concerts of the 2014-15 season at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus of Penn State.

Highlights include Pennsylvania composer Vincent Persichetti's "Divertimento for Band" and French composer Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute," commissioned by the Paris Conservatory in 1902 as an examination piece for its students. Appearing as flute soloist is Ammi Lopez, winner of the 2013-14 Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition. The Symphonic Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble are conducted by Dennis Glocke.

Tickets are $12 general admission/$4 students (at the door). Advanced tickets for School of Music concerts in Eisenhower Auditorium and are discounted 40 percent. There is no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased. (Tickets purchased on the the day of the concert are not eligible.) The performance also is available via livestreamed video at Penn State School of Music.
