Langsdale honored as 2014 Distinguished Risk Manager

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) announced today (Sept. 29) that Gary W. Langsdale, University risk officer, received the 2014 Distinguished Risk Manager (DRM) award. 

Steve Bryant, managing director of risk management at Texas Tech University System, also received the honor. Award recipients are nominated and selected by peers, and URMIA has recognized 49 members with the DRM award since 1989.

Langsdale has served as University risk officer since 2003, with responsibility for enterprise risk management, including operational, hazard and privacy risks. Previously, he was director of risk management at International Paper Co. Langsdale has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance and risk management field, contributed to three recent white papers for URMIA, served as URMIA's president in 2013 and participated in the development of the ASME standard on risk assessment in higher education. In April 2009, he was recognized by Business Insurance magazine as a member of their Risk Management Honor Roll. Langsdale has a bachelor of science degree from Allegheny College and holds the associate in risk management (ARM) professional designation.
