Penn College plastics professor presents at conference

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member conducted two presentations at a recent international plastics conference.

Kirk M. Cantor, professor of plastics and polymer technology, presented “Materials & Extrusion for Roll-Fed Thermoforming” and “Essentials of Stable Sheet Extrusion” at the Society of Plastics Engineers 23rd Annual Thermoforming Conference in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The sessions offered an overview of the important polymers and extrusion techniques relevant to thermoforming and an in-depth description of extrusion process variables that must be controlled to minimize variation in the plastic sheet used for thermoforming.

Cantor is an internationally known expert on polymer extrusion, the process employed to produce the plastic sheet used by thermoformers to create final products. He has delivered extrusion presentations in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. He has also written a textbook and approximately 25 papers on the topic.

Penn College is one of just five colleges in the nation offering degree programs in plastics accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
