Health and Human Development distinguished speaker to discuss biosimilars

Talk planned from global head of biopharmaceutical and oncology injectable development for Sandoz International

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Mark McCamish, ’80g NUTR, global head of biopharmaceutical and oncology injectable development for Sandoz International, a division of Novartis, will present “Biosimilars: A Biologic Drug Revolution” at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, as part of the College of Health and Human Development Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series. The talk, which is sponsored by the Health and Human Development Alumni Society, will be held in the Ruth Pike Auditorium, 22 Biobehavioral Health Building on Penn State’s University Park campus. The event is free and open to the public.

McCamish leads research and development of all biologics at Sandoz Biopharmaceuticals, the world leader in development and commercialization of biosimilars. His responsibilities include selection of the target, cloning, technical development, scale-up, and pre-clinical and clinical development of biologics, as well as development of oncology injectable medications. 

Previously, he was senior vice president and chief medical officer at three biotechnology companies and held senior positions at Amgen and Abbott Laboratories. McCamish has held professorships and maintained academic practices at the University of California, Davis and The Ohio State University.

McCamish has published broadly in several therapeutic areas in multiple journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association and Lancet. The 2013 European Antibody Congress named him as the 12th most influential person in the global antibody industry. In addition to earning a doctoral degree in nutrition from Penn State in 1980, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise physiology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his medical doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. McCamish is board certified in internal medicine and nutrition and metabolism and he is licensed as a physician and surgeon in California.

The Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series was established by the Board of Directors of the College of Health and Human Development Alumni Society in order to feature prominent graduates of the college who are leaders in their fields. The board's mission is to facilitate and promote the participation of alumni in activities that support the college's pursuit of excellence.
