Open auditions set for 'Beyond Therapy' at New Kensington campus

Six characters needed for farcical comedy

Bill Mitas, instructor of theatre arts at Penn State New Kensington, has put out a call to the campus and community to attend open auditions for the fall production of "Beyond Therapy" at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Sept. 14 and 15, in the campus' Forum Theatre.

The farcical comedy focuses on two residents of Manhattan, Prudence and Bruce, who are seeking stable romantic relationships with the help of their psychiatrists. The production features six characters – Bruce, Prudence, Stuart, Charlotte, Bob and Andrew.

Written by Christopher Durang, the play opened off-Broadway in 1981. The cast included Sigourney Weaver as Prudence and Stephen Collins as Bruce. It moved to Broadway a year later. The show is popular in college, regional and community theatres.

The campus production will run for three days, Nov. 13 to 15. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. each night.
