Cooking programs to be offered on campus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – As part of its outreach efforts, the College of Health and Human Development, Department of Nutritional Sciences, and School of Hospitality Management will offer several opportunities for home chefs to cook with experienced chefs throughout the year with its Cooking Programs. These programs are designed to promote good cooking and healthy lifestyles for all ages.

Cooking Programs for Fall 2014 include: 

Home Chef

“Home Chef: Basics Class” with Chef Kristi Branstetter
From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

“How to Cook Gourmet on a Budget” with Chef Kristi Branstetter
(Penn State students only)
From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17

“Home Chef: Stress Free Holiday Cooking” with Chef Kristi Branstetter
From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8

Home Chef Pro

“Home Chef Pro: Grilling” with Chefs George Ruth and Jean-Pierre Ranjeva
From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4

Participants will learn the basic techniques of searing and roasting, as well as how to create their own sauces. Additionally, participants will work with fresh ingredients to create a multi-course meal using classic culinary techniques.

Registration for all programs is required, and program fee varies by theme. Costs include instruction, a multi-course gourmet dinner prepared by participants, and a take-home manual with recipes and tips.
