Effective immediately, Penn State instructors may schedule videos in advance for future pickup on a specific date by using the University Libraries’ new Video Scheduling form. This includes DVDs and other video formats from Penn State Libraries’ collection, including videos formerly in the MediaTech collection as well as videos at campus locations. Any video available for circulation at the time of the scheduled use (that is, videos not on course reserve or otherwise unavailable) is eligible for this service.
The service works by placing a hold for each video requested, and it appears on the user’s library account as “suspended” until approximately 10 days prior to the date needed. At that time, the video is retrieved and placed on hold for the user at the requested pickup location, and it is then available for standard checkout (seven-day loan for videos, with multiple renewals possible).
To ensure that videos are available, borrowers are advised to submit requests at least two weeks in advance of the date needed. The request form accommodates up to five videos, and the form may be submitted multiple times, as often as needed, to schedule additional videos.
