Penn Staters share excitement of return to campus through social media

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- New and returning students began arriving on campus and faculty and staff put this finishing touches on preparations for a new academic year. Penn State campuses have been abuzz with the excitement of the start of fall semester.

Social media has been abuzz as well. Penn State social media channels have been encouraging the use of #WelcomeBackPSU with posts and photos illustrating the joys of the annual rites. Posts from students, families and staff are featured at tagboard.com/WelcomeBackPSU.

"It's such an exciting time every year, and we regularly see people posting about everything that's happening, sharing photos of move-in, new experiences and reuniting with friends," said Geoff Rushton, manager of the Office of Social Media, which coordinated the project. "It made sense to encourage that and bring all these social media networks into a single channel to paint this picture of a really interesting and mostly fun time on campus."

The Penn State community is encouraged to use #WelcomeBackPSU for relevant posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and Google+.
