McDonald-Smith wins MGA Public Links Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Rising senior Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) earned his first MGA Public Links Championship Thursday, leading the field by five strokes with a 36-hole score of 138.

Mcdonald-Smith's 6-stroke win ties the record for the largest margin of victory and 138 tally ties for the second lowest winning score in MGA Public Links history. The Nittany Lion fired a 71 and 5-under 67 in the first and second round, respectively, on the Charleston Springs Golf Course.

McDonald-Smith plans to round out his summer slate at the New York State Amateur, a Met Open qualifier, and the Met Amateur before returning to Penn State for the fall season.
