Program to fund physician scientists at Penn State Hershey

Penn State Hershey is launching the Physician-Scientist Recruitment Initiative to address the decreasing number of clinicians conducting biomedical research. Physicians bring a unique perspective to scientific questions on public health because of their experience with patients. They are often in the best position to design and study innovative ways of helping patients improve their health.

The Physician-Scientist Recruitment Initiative provides $1 million in research support over four years for each selected physician-scientist. With this commitment, 75 percent of the physician-scientist’s salary will be covered for research activities, with the remainder of funds used for corresponding research support. While the program will recruit nationally, Penn State Hershey faculty are encouraged to apply for support.

The program is consistent with the mission of the Penn State Clinical Translational Science Institute and supports the research priorities in Penn State Hershey’s strategic plan.

Details about the program and a request for applications will follow in the coming months.
