Project management professional to lead Penn College noncredit program

When projects are well-led, they are completed on time and under budget, and recognized as a positive experience by team members.

Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology offers an intensive three-day program to provide managers, technical personnel and other professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed as project managers. The program features a variety of planning exercises and activities with an action/learning focus.

After completing the program, participants will understand the purpose and benefits of a common project management method and the importance of planning to ensure project success. They will be able to specify objectives and constraints with respect to quality, time and cost; develop management procedures to promote coordination and cooperation among participants; and learn and apply proven management tools and techniques for planning, organizing, scheduling and budgeting projects that will improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Participants will develop the personal ability to improve the performance of others; increase contributions to the organization as personal goals are set and action plans are developed for the integration of new ideas; enhance the team’s ability to meet deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner; understand process-related behaviors that can enhance teamwork and increase the likelihood of success; motivate attendees to use the concepts, principles and techniques of the project-success method on projects in which they are involved; and guide projects toward successful completion – within specifications, on time and within budget.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7, 14 and 21 at the Center for Business & Workforce Development on the college’s main campus in Williamsport.

Instructor James Hoy is an experienced project management, human resource management and manufacturing/operations management leader and has developed and delivered many leadership programs tailored to support operational strategy. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Penn State, where he was a management development programs and services faculty member for 11 years.

A Certified Project Management Professional and Certified Public Accountant (on inactive status), Hoy served in a variety of management positions prior to his Penn State employment. He has experience leading plant-wide training and has facilitated continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing and nonmanufacturing areas.
