Alumni Association membership exceeds 174,000

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Membership in the Penn State Alumni Association grew to 174,379, a net gain of nearly 1,700 or 1 percent as of June 30. In addition, the Alumni Association Sustaining Life Member program, an annual voluntary giving program for life members, included participation from more than 9,000 and contributions exceeding $623,000.

Alumni Association President Kay Salvino outlined that engagement and philanthropic impact today (July 11) in a report to the Board of Trustees during its regular July meeting.

Salvino reported on the Alumni Association’s progress against its 2013-15 Strategic Plan and offered the following highlights:

-- Since January 2007, the Alumni Association and its affiliate groups provided more than $6 million to For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students, nearly all of it for endowed scholarships across the University. Last year, nearly 600 students benefitted from these endowments.

-- Alumni Career Services created more than 35,000 individual connections with alumni around the country and won the bronze medal from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for its online career programs.

-- The Alumni Association received its first $1 million gift, an endowment to support its Lion Ambassadors program, from Matt and Anne Schuyler.

-- The Alumni Association has continued its focus on supporting University and community efforts to address the issues of child sexual abuse, including the new Centre County Children’s Advocacy Center and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

-- In June, the Alumni Association hosted a national Alumni Leadership Connections Conference, attracting more than 150 volunteer leaders from affiliate groups across the country.

Established in 1870, the Penn State Alumni Association connects alumni to the University and to each other; provides valuable benefits to members; and supports the University’s mission of teaching, research and service. More information about the Alumni Association is available at online.
