Penn State is a Division I university with more than 800 student-athletes involved in 16 men’s varsity sports and 15 women’s sports. In addition, ICA oversees participation by a number of Commonwealth Campuses in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).  Penn State Athletics employs approximately 240 full-time staff and manages a number of large and complex facilities, including the 107,000-seat Beaver Stadium and the new 6,000-seat Pegula Ice Arena.

In its history, Penn State has won 73 national team championships. In the Big Ten, the Nittany Lions have won 73 regular season championships and 15 tournament championships.

Penn State student-athletes are honored consistently for their academic achievements. A record 468 Penn State student-athletes earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the fall semester.
