2014 Parents & Families Weekend, July 7 event submission deadline

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Parents Program will be accepting event planning forms from campus partners through Monday, July 7, for this year's Parents and Families Weekend at University Park, scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 10-12.

If you would like to participate in 2014 Parents & Families Weekend, please complete our online event planning form.

The primary goal of the weekend is to engage family members and current students by highlighting the myriad resources and opportunities available here at Penn State and to showcase our strengths as a larger institution.

A secondary goal, particularly for families of first-year, transfer and change-of-campus students, is to provide opportunities for family members to meet University staff and have questions answered, now that their students have been here for a month or so.

Feedback from previous weekends reveals that more multi-generational family members are attending. With that in mind, event planners are encouraged to design events that are attractive not only to parents and current students, but also to younger siblings and extended family.

Additionally, since many family members can’t take Friday off from work, planners should consider offering events throughout the day and evening on Saturday and also on Sunday, which has traditionally been very quiet.
