Penn State Transportation Services appoints DeMayo director

Penn State Transportation Services has appointed Rob DeMayo as the new director of Transportation Services. DeMayo, who specializes in customer-focused operations within the transportation industry, brings a wealth of international management experience to Penn State.

“DeMayo is a great fit for the University,” says Conal Carr, director of housing operations and a member of the search committee. “He brings a wide range of experience in the transportation sector to Penn State. He has a keen focus for customer service and satisfaction, and he sets clear goals and expectations for himself and his staff. He will hit the ground running, connecting with our community.”

DeMayo has spent the last decade traveling the world, living and working with a wide variety of clients on four continents. Most recently, DeMayo served as the director of European Operations for MV Global Transport Logistics (MVGTL) in Glasgow, Scotland. While at MVGTL, he worked to market the organization and secure new business; oversaw all project teams, including transportation services for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland; and managed administrative duties such as budget development, billing, marketing, human resources management, and contract negotiations.

Prior to working with MVGTL, DeMayo was the bus services manager for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, England. From 2009-12, DeMayo headed up a department that developed an intermodal transportation system across the United Kingdom. The system integrated rail, bus, shared car, and bike and walking paths, which helped alleviate daily congestion on roads with limited capacity.

From 2007-09, DeMayo worked as the project director for Transportation Management Services (TMS) in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa. He oversaw the development of operating plans, focusing on intermodal transportation services, managed a team of 21 international transportation specialists, and worked with the South African government at various levels. Other positions DeMayo has held with TMS include regional manager, assistant head of Games Bus Systems for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, and operations manager.

DeMayo also has served as an event transport consultant and as the motor pool manager for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Rob DeMayo will provide strong leadership for Transportation Services, and I know he’s excited to be coming to Penn State, both professionally and personally,” says Carr. “I believe people will enjoy getting to know him and talking with him about his experiences in the global marketplace.”
