Winners named in Penn College pastry show

The School of Business & Hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently hosted its Culinary and Pastry Experience, allowing students in baking, pastry and culinary arts majors to showcase their final projects for the college community and industry judges.

From among more than 70 entries, Best of Show was awarded to Kristina M. Williams, a baking and pastry arts student from South Williamsport, for a chocolate sculpture featuring a chameleon perched atop stylized greenery.

Other winners include:

Chocolate works: First place, Kelly E. Renk, of Cogan Station; second place, Lynnette F. Stegmaier, of Muncy Valley; third place, DeLaney W. Blubaugh, of Waynesboro; and honorable mentions, Katlyn J. Hackling, of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., and Diana N. Lindner, of North White Plains, N.Y.

Cakes: First place, Marci L. Cohen, of Clarks Summit; second place, Shannon E. Croney, of Lake Ariel; third place, Rachel C. Bryant, of Wellsboro; and honorable mentions, Autumn E. MacInnis, of Trout Run, and Laura D. Rice, of Sunbury.

Classical and specialty desserts: First place, Rachel C. Cooper, of Bangor; second place, Katlyn J. Hackling, of Lake Hiawatha, N.J.; third place, Taylor Potter, of Towanda; and honorable mention, Liliana M. Strunk, of Avis.

Sugar art: First place, Nathan D. Strouse, of Spring Mills; second place, Taylor A. Reed, of Shamokin; and third place, Hanna A. Thompson-Hill, of Millheim.

Pastry projects were judged by Francis Danielle, of Joanna’s Italian Bakery, Montoursville; Kim Morrison, Cakes for Occasions, Spring Mills; and Francis Priore, executive chef, Westmoreland Club, Wilkes-Barre.
