Supply chain junior earns R. Gene Richter Scholarship Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Karoline Rueckerl, a supply chain management junior in the Penn State Smeal College of Business, has been selected as a recipient of the 2014 R. Gene Richter Scholarship from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

R. Gene Richter Scholarships are presented annually to the top supply chain management students from across the United States.

At Penn State, Rueckerl serves as director of mentorship for one of the college’s supply chain management organizations, through which she supports students with resume editing and interview preparation. She is currently working to expand her role to provide a mentoring program that links underclassmen with upperclassmen, allowing for more intimate professional and personal coaching in the academic program.

Rueckerl has held two project steering co-ops with BMW and a catalyst refining-supply chain internship with BASF.

As an award recipient, Rueckerl will be honored at ISM 2014 in Las Vegas this month. Awardees earn a monetary scholarship of as much as $5,000 in tuition assistance and are granted access to an executive mentor and a junior mentor, a former Richter scholar.

The R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program was established and named in memory of R. Gene Richter, who was a galvanizing force in the field of procurement. Richter led the supply organizations at The Black & Decker Corp., Hewlett-Packard and IBM. For more information on the R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program, visit www.richterfoundation.org.

The Institute for Supply Management was founded in 1915 to enhance the value and performance of procurement and supply chain management practitioners and their organizations.
