Penn State to offer four basketball camp opportunities

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State basketball coach Patrick Chambers and the Nittany Lion coaching staff will welcome players from across the region beginning May 31 when the first of four Penn State basketball summer camp opportunities begins.

Penn State will offer four different boy's camp experiences including: Father/Son Camp (May 31-June 2), Team Camp (June 15-16), Day Camp (June 24-27) and Advanced Skills Camp (June 28-29).

All Penn State basketball camps are held on the University Park campus with campers housed in University residence halls and supervised by camp counselors.

Nittany Lion head coach Patrick Chambers, entering his third season at Penn State, and the Penn State coaching staff, are actively involved in all camps and bring the same high energy, positive and engaged approach to camp instruction that Nittany Lion team practices have become known for. Inspirational demonstrations, demanding exercises and fun-filled competition highlight camps that address both physical skill development and mental approach to the game.

The camp is designed for students grades two through 12 and their fathers or guardians.

The Team Camp (June 15-16) is designed to provide junior varsity, varsity and/or club teams with the opportunity to train and compete under the direction and guidance of an outstanding coaching staff. Each team will have tactical training sessions, technical pressure training and daily competitions. Teams must send a minimum of eight players/coaches and a maximum of 12. Previous camps have consisted of more than 70 teams from across the Northeast with more than 700 regional players and coaches competing in the Bryce Jordan Center and other campus facilities. Teams from Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia and New York have taken part in Team Camp.

The Day Camp (June 24-27) is open to boys entering grades one through eight next fall and is designed to focus on fun and fundamentals. Workouts will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday. The focus will be on teaching the fundamentals of the game while providing a fun atmosphere. The campers are asked to bring their lunch on Monday through Wednesday; drinks will be provided.

The Advanced Skills Camp (June 18-19), although open to players entering grades 9 through 12, is a two-day physically demanding and competitive practice camp and is specifically designed for more advanced players who are serious about raising their skills in preparation for playing at the collegiate level.
