Penn State to host Center on Optical Wireless Applications meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State is hosting an industrial advisory board meeting of the Industry/University Cooperative Research Center on Optical Wireless Applications (COWA) on May 21 to 23 at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

The meeting is open to engineers, leaders and executives in industry, and researchers in the communications and optical fields.

Amr Elnashai, Harold and Inge Marcus Dean of Engineering, will give the opening remarks.

Mohammad Fatemi, president of InnoGreen, and Tai-Yin Huang, president of Andromeda LED Lighting, will deliver company presentations.

New project proposals and presentation topics include communications, information processing and data storage, defense and national security, energy, health and medicine.

A workshop will discuss COWA technical and administrative progress and plans, and IAB roles and responsibilities.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, COWA is a joint initiative of Penn State and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The center is dedicated to the innovation, development and improvement of optical wireless applications as used for communications, networking, imaging, positioning and remote sensing while helping to reduce energy consumption.
