Penn State team wins regional food technology competition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A student team representing the Food Science Department in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences recently took first place in the Institute of Food Technologists North Atlantic Region Student Association College Bowl competition.

The Penn State team of Jared Smith, Latha Murugesan, Ken Vogel and Timothy Yeung -- all food science majors -- topped competing squads from Cornell University, Rutgers University, the University of Maine and the University of Massachusetts.

The competition was held at the University of Maine at Orono on April 12. The Penn State team will compete against seven other universities nationwide during the Institute of Food Technologists annual meeting in New Orleans, June 21-24.
