Yuengling first of three speakers for Schuylkill 80th Anniversary Series

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- The first in a series of three Penn State Schuylkill 80th Anniversary speakers, Richard “Dick” Yuengling Jr., president and owner of D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc., provided students and community members with a unique opportunity to hear his insights on the brewing industry as well as his personal insights on success in life and the importance of his employees to the success of the brewery.

Several students in the Penn State Honors program met Yuengling in a private reception held prior to the event, held April 22 in the John E. Morgan Auditorium. These students said they were most impressed with his willingness to engage in conversation with them and to provide insight on success in the business world.

The next speakers in the 80th Anniversary Series will be Thomas F. Twardzik from Mrs. T's Pierogies on Sept. 16, and Joseph Jurgielewicz, a local duck farmer, on Nov. 5.

Kelly M. Austin, chancellor of Penn State Schuylkill said, “We’re pleased that three business leaders from our region have graciously agreed to share their stories with our students and the community at large. We feel this is a great way to celebrate our 80-year partnership with the Schuylkill community.”

The Penn State Schuylkill faculty-led Student and Professional Development Committee made the arrangements for the speaker series. Committee chair Cathy Fiorillo is an assistant professor of theatre arts at Penn State Schuylkill. She directs and produces the annual theatre production of the Nittany Players on campus.
