-- Creating Inclusive Courses: Practical Approaches that Advance Learning from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 17 and 24 in 315 Rider Building.

Inclusive classrooms enhance learning for all students, including those from underrepresented groups. But how does one create an environment where all students are valued as individuals and as vital members of the classroom community? This three-part workshop series, facilitated by Angela Linse, executive director and associate dean; Suzanne Weinstein, director of instructional consulting, assessment and research; and Jessica Arends, graduate consultant and doctoral student in curriculum and instruction; is designed for anyone who teaches Penn State students, agrees that diversity is important and wants more information about useful strategies suitable for their courses.

During this 3-part series of workshops, participants will

-- Explore how and why attending to diversity improves learning for all students

-- Discuss common barriers to learning in classes that are not inclusive

-- Identify impediments to creating inclusive class environments

-- Experience a variety of research-based inclusive practices

-- Make decisions about which actions are most relevant for increasing inclusivity in specific courses
