Penn College students earn industry certifications

Nine engineering design technology students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have earned industry certifications related to Autodesk, a leading producer of computer-aided drafting and design software.

Four students passed the AutoCAD 2014 Certified Professional exam, two others passed the Inventor 2014 Certified Professional exam, and three additional students passed both exams. Each test consisted of 35 questions, many of which required the students to demonstrate their expertise of the software.

“These exams are very challenging. Certification is an additional credential to demonstrate to prospective employers that students are prepared for the workplace,” said Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of engineering design technology and department head at Penn College.

Daniel J. Donowski, Tunkhannock; Rachel E. Heller, Allison Park; and Nicholas E. Leasure, Nazareth, passed both exams.

Other students receiving AutoCAD 2014 certifications were Ian M. Dorman, Mill Hall; Alex P. Fair, Bradford; Ryan D. Roth, Lebanon; and Justin R. Vent, Drexel Hill.

David J. Donowski, Tunkhannock, and Brian L. Hockenberry, Lewistown, passed the Inventor 2014 exam.

The students received their certifications through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, an Autodesk Authorized Training Center.

“The external validation of academic skills is not only an awesome achievement for the students, but it also confirms our program’s rigor and that our competencies are aligned with industry expectations,” Walker said.

Daniel Donowski, David Donowski, Dorman, Heller and Leasure are enrolled in the engineering design technology major. Hockenberry, Roth and Vent are computer-aided product design students. Fair is a computer-aided drafting technology major.
