Penn State Berks launches One Button Studio

The Penn State Berks Center for Learning and Teaching has launched One Button Studio, a simplified video recording studio that can easily be used by virtually anyone by simply touching one button. There will be an open house celebration from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the One Button Studio (Room 127, Boscov-Lakin Information Commons at the Thun Library). This event is open to the campus community and will include light refreshments and giveaways. Attendees are also invited to bring a flash drive to film a short video clip during the event.

Special guests during the Open House celebration include the creator of the One Button Studio concept, Justin Miller, who is project manager of advanced learning projects at Penn State, and Carla Rapp, media commons consultant to eastern Penn State campuses.

The One Button Studio requires no previous video production experience. The design of the studio allows users to record high-quality video projects without setting up lights, microphones and cameras. Users can simply bring their flash drive and push a single button.

Students can use the One Button Studio to create high-quality video for classroom multimedia assignments utilizing studio lighting, microphone and camera setup at the touch of a single button. They can also create special video effects with the green screen. The video file can easily be loaded into iMovie for final editing. Students can also practice oral presentations using the Presentation Practice mode to record sessions (along with projected visuals). The video file is saved on a flash drive for self-review.

In addition, faculty members can use the One Button Studio to create short instructional videos for hybrid or online courses.

The One Button Studio can be reserved in advance. Otherwise, the studio is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
