Greater Allegheny to offer certificate in sports administration

Penn State Greater Allegheny will offer a new sports administration certificate program with classes beginning this summer.

This 15-credit interdisciplinary program offers students an introduction to different aspects of sports administration careers. Students who complete this certificate will enhance their portfolios and career opportunities to include working in the fields of sports management, business/retail, media, sporting teams and recreational programs.

The campus already offers many of the classes for the certificate but is adding new ones to the summer and fall schedule, such as KINES 141: The Socio-Cultural Dynamics of Kinesiology, and COMM 412: Sports, Media and Society.

Students interested in earning their sports administration certificate should contact Douglas Charles, assistant professor of history, at dmc166@psu.edu. Students wishing to pursue this certificate via the bachelor of science in business (BSBCC) individualized option should also contact Bernice Cerasaro, business program coordinator, at bcc10@psu.edu. Cerasaro has had many students interested in this type of career. She feels the certificate offers a great opportunity for students interested in working in sports-related organizations.
