Freelance-A-Thon provides advice, options for enterprising students

Students interested in a variety of communications-related and technology fields can get a daylong immersion in entrepreneurial approaches and freelancing with a Freelance-A-Thon coordinated by the College of Communications on Sunday, April 6.

The session, from 1 to 7 p.m. in Carnegie Building, features a variety of experienced professionals, breakout sessions, a keynote lecture, and free food and door prizes for all who attend. Focus areas include: writing, photography, graphic design, filmmaking and video production, digital media skills, and design for gaming and the web.

Along with a half dozen communications faculty members with abundant freelance experience, the session features: acclaimed photographer David Wells, Associated Press freelance writer Jim Carlson and a trio fo Penn State alumni -- New York-based freelance writer Ebony Martin, Rex Martin of Firaxis Games and Robert Frick, an editor and writer specializing in investing and finance.
