Big Sean to headline spring concert at Penn State Behrend

Student tickets on sale now

Grammy-nominated Detroit MC Big Sean will headline the spring concert at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, May 1. Student tickets, which cost $20, are on sale now.

Big Sean fast-talked his way onto Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. He bluffed past security at Detroit’s 102.7 FM, where Kanye West was doing a radio interview and got next to West, who agreed to listen to him freestyle as they walked to the exit. He left him with a demo tape.

That led to a spot on West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. The music created some early buzz online, where Big Sean released a series of mixtapes, offering tracks he produced with Don Cannon, No I.D. and Drake, but it would take four years to put out a formal label debut. That disc, “Finally Famous,” included guest work by West, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. It produced three crossover hits – “My Last,” “Marvin & Chardonnay” and “Dance A$$ (Remix)” – and won top CD, single and video honors at BET’s Hip Hop Awards.

Big Sean continues to work with West. A guest spot on his 2012 single “Mercy” earned them two Grammy nominations.

Taylor Gang recording artist Chevy Woods will open the Penn State Behrend concert, which will be held in the college’s Junker Center. Student tickets, which cost $20, are available now at the Office of Student Activities desk in the Reed Union Building. A limited number of student VIP tickets also are available; those tickets, which cost $25, provide early entry to the concert and a chance to meet Big Sean.

Public tickets are $30 and go on sale Monday, March 31. Those tickets can be purchased online at estore.psu.edu (click “PSU Erie Office of Student Activities”), by phone at 814-898-6171 or at the Office of Student Activities desk.
