Jazz trio’s live performance set for April 10

Local band Glenn E. Williams and the Jazz Trio will visit Penn State Brandywine to perform and discuss their latest original album, “Harp’s Revenge.” Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to the event, which will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Main Building Auditorium, Room 101.

A gifted pianist, Williams has spent more than 20 years performing and recording jazz compositions. Most recently, he has been touring and recording with his jazz trio, which includes John Gulezian on the trumpet and percussionist Nic D’Orsaneo. The group performs both original and standard compositions.

“We infuse the sounds of Miles Davis, Monk and Pat Metheny into a more intimate yet powerful sound,” Williams explained. “Aside from our lyrical melodies, we adapt our high energy Latin-jazz arrangements for a big, full sound that our trio has been able to showcase over the past few years.”

The group is the house band at Va La Vineyards in Avondale and they often perform at La Verona Cafe in Kennett Square and the Nomad in Wilmington.

Williams said that he enjoys playing live because “the energy and excitement of both the band and audience coming together for a new and entertaining show is different every time.”

Williams has been a music teacher at Delaware County Community College for more than 10 years and has remained an involved member of the local music scene.

This event is free and light refreshments will be served. Due to limited space, RSVP to BW-UR@psu.edu or by calling 610-892-1484.

Penn State Brandywine will also welcome Beatles expert and Penn State Laureate Kenneth Womack to campus for his interactive, multimedia presentation titled “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!: The Evolving Artistry of the Beatles” at 6 p.m. Monday, April 21. For additional information about these speakers, visit Penn State Brandywine’s Speaker Series webpage.

All presentations are held on the Penn State Brandywine campus, 25 Yearsley Mill Road in Media.
