Wijekumar, students travel to Spain for spring break

Kay Wijekumar, associate professor of information sciences and technology (IST) at Penn State Beaver, is traveling in Spain over spring break with five of her IST students in a study abroad opportunity. The students are IST majors and members of Wijekumar’s IST 440W class, Information Sciences and Technology Integration and Problem Solving, which presents a problem-based approach to technology integration by focusing on real-life problems faced by an organization.

The students are attending IST conferences in Valencia and will travel to Barcelona for sightseeing led by Wijekumar. Valencia and Barcelona are Spain’s third and second largest cities, respectively. Students on the trip are juniors Alex Boguszewski of Cranberry Township and Spencer Conklin, Beaver. Senior students are Dorrian Gilliam, Aliquippa; Joseph Benscoter, Beaver Falls; and Nicholas Bruce, Darlington.
