Beaver alumnus H. Scott Cunningham will deliver commencement address

Penn State Beaver Alumnus H. Scott Cunningham will deliver the keynote address at the campus’ commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the Student Union Building auditorium.

Cunningham attended Beaver and continued his education at Penn State University Park where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics and graduated with distinction from the Smeal College of Business in 1980. Cunningham is the executive vice president and regional managing director at PNC Wealth Management, a position he’s held since 2007.

He joined PNC in 1994 as a portfolio manager and administrative officer in the PNC Private Bank Personal Trust Services Department. In 1999 he became group manager for PNC Advisors Trust Company and two years later was named trust director for PNC Advisors Trust and Fiduciary Services. In 2005 Cunningham became team director for PNC Wealth Management Group before moving into his current position, where he sets strategy and directs implementation of a 207-person organization that serves 10,000 clients. His clients receive a full range of wealth management services, including investment management, trust services, estate administration, wealth planning, and private banking. He manages assets totaling $6.2 billion, loans of $1.3 billion, and deposits of $1.3 billion. In addition, Cunningham generates annual revenue in excess of $100 million and generates annual sales revenue of more than $39 million.

Prior to joining PNC, Cunningham worked as an attorney for Rhodes & Cowie, P.C., Pittsburgh, and spent three years as a tax consultant for Price Waterhouse. He was a financial manager for the U.S. Air Force Reserve at various locations throughout the country and was a budget and management analyst at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.

Cunningham has served as a board member of numerous community organizations, including Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, Boy Scouts of America, Baptist Homes of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Rankin Center. He earned his juris doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and holds a master’s degree in public management and policy from Carnegie Mellon University.
