Lehigh Valley THON team breaks fundraising record again

Campus contributes more than $46K toward overall total of $13.3 million

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- During the weekend of Feb. 21 to 23, two Lehigh Valley students joined hundreds of other Penn State students in a 46-hour, no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon, affectionately known as THON, to raise money for the fight against pediatric cancer. Through their year-long efforts, the Penn State Lehigh Valley team exceeded the 2013 campus total, which was $33,707.56, by raising $46,159.57. The Lehigh Valley total was the seventh highest out of Penn State's 19 Commonwealth Campuses. In total, THON raised more than $13.3 million for the Four Diamonds Fund, breaking the 2013 total of more than $12 million.

The 2014 Lehigh Valley campus THON dancers were Rita DiBenedetto, a senior corporate communication major, and A.J. Ressler, a sophomore engineering major. They and the rest of the campus team achieved their impressive total through a mixture of fundraising activities throughout the year including a Mr. Lehigh Valley pageant, silent auction and canning drives throughout the community.
