Col. Robert Balcavage to speak at Penn State Altoona

Penn State Altoona will host guest speaker Col. Robert Balcavage at 4 p.m. March 5 in the Pondview Lounge of the Slep Student Center. Balcavage serves as chief operations integration analyst at the U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute at the Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania. With a rich background in Army operations at various levels of staff and command both in and out of forward-deployed areas around the world, Balcavage will share insights with the future leaders of the Army.

This speaking event is free and open to the public.

Balcavage enlisted in the Army as a forward observer in 1983, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1989 and was commissioned as an infantry officer. He has served in the 1st Armored, 3d Infantry, 82d Airborne, 10th Mountain and 1 Cavalry Divisions as well as the 75th Ranger Regiment. He commanded the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry (Airborne) in Iraq during The Surge.

Balcavage’s combat tours include Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He has additionally served as a member of the Multi-National Force and Observer Mission in the Sinai Peninsula and Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo.
