York basketball teams extend their seasons into the playoffs

Penn State York’s basketball teams, both the women and men, have made the playoffs. The women played on Feb. 19 and lost in the first round, 77-69, to Penn State Brandywine. The women were 16-7 during the regular season. The men’s team is the top seed in the bracket and had a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The York men, 22-2 in the regular season, take on Penn State Fayette at home at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Penn State York gym in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. In 2013, the York men won the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) championship for the first time in campus history.

Players who are seniors were honored in between the men’s and women’s games. Megan Hart (No. 13), a guard from Edgewood, Md., and Courtney Riggs (No. 24), a guard from Hanover, Pa., were honored from the women’s team. Ben Todd (No. 54), a center for the men's team from Hereford, Md., was also honored.

Riggs also received the game ball from the Feb. 11 game at Penn State Mont Alto when she passed the 1,000 points scored mark and became the first women at York to reach that milestone.
