Behrend basketball player clears 1,000-point career mark

ERIE, Pa. — Erika Woll, a senior from Erie, scored 15 points in a Jan. 20 win over the Franciscan women’s basketball team. She now has more than 1,000 points in her career at Penn State Behrend.

The college’s wrestling, swimming, bowling, track and field, and volleyball teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 61, Franciscan 49

La Roche 68, Penn State Behrend 48

Derrick Clark, a sophomore from Erie, scored a career-high 17 points against Franciscan. He had 14 points against La Roche.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 73, Franciscan 53

La Roche 62, Penn State Behrend 60

Erika Woll, a senior from Erie, crossed the 1,000-point career mark with a 3-pointer against Franciscan. She had a total of 15 points in the game.

Men’s wrestling

Penn State Behrend 30, Kent State-Tuscarawas 25

Case Western Reserve 39, Penn State Behrend 16

Penn State Behrend 30, Alfred State 19

Sam Svetz, a freshman from North East, won by pin against Kent State-Tuscarawas and by decision against Alfred State. He wrestles at 165 pounds.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 139, Pitt-Bradford 61

Penn State Behrend 171, Wells 25

Liam Watterson, a freshman from Brentwood, won the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke. Brady Mattson, a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware, won the 1650 freestyle.

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 108, Pitt-Bradford 39

Penn State Behrend 107, Wells 62

Lacey Grinnen, a sophomore from Warren, won the 1000 freestyle by a two-minute margin, finishing in 12:41.07. She also won the 500 freestyle.

Men’s volleyball

Southern Virginia 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Penn State Behrend 3, Cincinnati Christian 0

Carthage 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Tyler Hermann, a junior from Cranberry Township, led the Lions with a combined 24 kills.

Men’s track and field

Zach Wortman, a freshman from St. Mary’s, set a school record in the 5,000-meter run at Spire. He finished in 15:43.97, placing fifth.

Women’s track and field

Riley Crissman, a sophomore from Bradford, set a school record in the 300-meter run at Spire. She finished in 1:44.19, placing eighth.

Women’s bowling

Medaille 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Holly Rae Hanson, a sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, California, rolled a career-high 163 in the first game against Medaille. She had five consecutive strikes.
