2014 TEDxPSU speakers announced

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 14 innovators in technology, entertainment and design who will speak at this year’s TEDxPSU conference have been announced.

The independently organized TED event has hosted talks on Penn State’s University Park campus since 2010 with the goal of bringing together innovative and thought-provoking individuals from the community to share ideas worth spreading.

This year’s event will be held Sunday, March 2, in Schwab Auditorium. The theme is “Go Further.”

The list of speakers was announced over the past two weeks, with the last of the speakers announced Sunday (Feb. 9) on TEDxPSU’s Facebook page.

The 2014 speakers, most of whom are either Penn State alumni or current faculty, are:

- Janelle Applequist, health communication and international communications researcher;- Linda Collins, a professor of human development and family studies and statistics;- Bob Davis, the John and Clare Bertucci distinguished professor of material sciences and engineering at Carnegie Mellon University;- Natalie Dell O’Brien, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist and three-time USA National Rowing Team athlete;- Liz Hajek, geologist at Penn State;- Dr. John Jordan, a clinical professor of supply chain and information systems;- Matt Lamb, a lecturer in communication arts and sciences;- Seung Chan Lim, author of the award-winning book “Realizing Empathy: An Inquiry into the Meaning of Making”;- Spud Marshall, entrepreneur and CEO of co.space;- Rick Miller, senior business executive with 35 years of experience;- David Puts, associate professor of anthropology;- Susan Russell, associate professor in the School of Theatre;- Jeanine Staples, associate professor of literacy and language and African-American studies; and- Travis Tennessen, executive director of Sarvodaya USA.
