'Future of Medicine' panel rescheduled for Feb. 10

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Medical educators and researchers from the National Institutes of Health, Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development, Penn State’s College of Medicine, and the Penn State Hershey Medical Center will discuss "The Future of Medicine" during a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the HUB-Robeson Center Auditorium on the University Park campus.

The event was originally scheduled for Feb. 3 but had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The panelists include:
-- Dr. Duane Alexander, 1962 Penn State alumnus in science, senior scientific adviser to the director of the National Institutes of Health’s Fogarty International Center
-- Dr. Harold L. Paz, chief executive office of the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Health System, senior vice president for health affairs, and dean of the College of Medicine
-- Dr. Glenn Gerhard, Penn State alumnus 1982 in science and 1986 in medicine; administrative director, Penn State Hershey Institute for Personalized Medicine; and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology with the Penn State College of Medicine
-- Dr. Dennis Shea, associate dean for undergraduate studies and outreach and professor of health policy and administration, Penn State College of Health and Human Development

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Jeff Miller, 2010 Penn State alumnus in business, professor of dermatology, vice chair of the Department of Dermatology, and associate dean for administration with Penn State College of Medicine.

The event is part of a series of programs leading up to the inaugural "Shaping the Future Summit: The Impact of Innovation." The summit -- sponsored by the Schreyer Honors College with support from Life Technologies Inc. -- includes programs focused on the future of energy, the environment, technology and entrepreneurship.

The keynote event of this series -- featuring Dr. Peter H. Diamandis, co-founder and CEO of the X Prize Foundation -- will take place at 8 p.m. April 1, in Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus.

Should the Feb. 10 event need to be postponed due to weather, it will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the HUB-Robeson Center Auditorium.
