Registration and sponsorship forms for the Alle-Kiski Society's 12th annual Alumni Bowl-a-thon are now available on the Penn State New Kensington website.
Sponsored by the campus-based society, the Bowl-a-thon is slated for 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell, Pa. This is a family-fun event for students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Penn State. The entry fee is $20 and includes three games and shoe rental. Four- or five-person teams may sign up, or individuals may sign up and be assigned to a short-handed team.
The Bowl-a-thon is the alumni group's major fundraiser in the spring, and the proceeds support the society’s endowed scholarship and campus projects. Lane sponsorships are available for $50 and $100. Sponsorships are foundation of the fundraising effort. A $50 lane sponsor gets the donor’s name displayed during the event and included in the event program. For $100 the lane sponsor receives the same perks, as well as live announcements throughout the event and name placement on the campus website and newswire stories.
In the past four years, the alumni society has donated more than $45,000 to the campus for scholarships and special projects. Since 2010, the Alle-Kiski Society has increased its scholarship endowment by $26,000, made a $10,000 gift to athletics for a cardiovascular fitness room on the lower level of the Athletics Center, co-sponsored the reception at the annual Academic and Student Achievement Awards ceremony for $2,000, and donated $2,000 to THON. In addition, the society supported numerous smaller projects.
For the current academic year, the society awarded $3,600 in scholarships to three campus students: Joshua Swinehart, of Spring Church; Jennifer Phillips, of Vandergrift; and Caitlyn Cody, of Leechburg.
