Admissions Office to hold series of events for prospective students

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Admissions Office is planning a number of events for prospective students in the coming weeks.

Interested high school seniors can “Be a Penn State Student for a Day." Students are encouraged to live the life of a Penn Stater for a day.  Attendees will shadow a current Penn State student as they attend a college class, tour the campus and eat lunch in the dining hall. The events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Frable Building, Room 119. Students must register in advance and may choose between two dates: Feb. 13 or March 20.

Prospective students can also visit the Penn State booth at the Pittsburgh National College Fair on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh and meet with representatives from the Greater Allegheny campus. According to the website for the National Association for College Admission Counseling, parents and students participating in National College Fairs can meet one-on-one with representatives from colleges and universities to discuss admission and financial aid opportunities at their respective institutions.

Director of Admissions Lou Anne Caliguiri said, “College fairs are a great way for students to gather information on a number of schools.  Students may be able to narrow down their choices, and get a feel for a University.” She added, “Representatives from Penn State Greater Allegheny will be on hand to discuss academic majors, student life, athletics, scholarship opportunities and any other topics a student might want to explore.”

The admissions office is also holding a chancellor’s luncheon for incoming students who have been offered a Chancellor Award. These students and their families can enjoy a lunch on campus and meet Interim Chancellor Nancy L. Herron. This event will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, in the Ostermayer room in the Student Community Center.
