Employees now have additional benefits with PPO Blue health plan

100 percent coverage for certain costs associated with diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure

The Office of Human Resources reminds Penn State employees enrolled in the PPO Blue health insurance plan for 2014 that Value-Based Benefit Design (VBBD) is now available. This is a new benefit for those who have been diagnosed by a doctor with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and/or diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2). This benefit covers 100 percent of the costs of office visits, lab work and medical supplies associated with these conditions with no copays or coinsurance when an individual enrolls in this voluntary program. Prescription drug coverage is not included in the VBBD program, and the normal prescription cost sharing will apply.

To be eligible for this coverage, an employee must opt-in with Highmark, must remain in the PPO Blue plan and must follow an in-network doctor’s plan of care. For more information on VBBD or to opt-in, call Highmark at 800-914-4384 or log into your Highmark account and enroll. For added convenience, customer service representatives will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
