Nominations sought for staff recognition award

Nominations are being accepted by the University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) for an award that honors Penn State staff members who go above and beyond their normal routines in resolving difficult dilemmas or who have been exceptionally creative and responsive to the needs of others.

The USAC 's Staff Recognition and Appreciation Program was created to honor "staff stars" and has recognized dozens of staff members in the past few years. All staff members are eligible and anyone at the University -- administrators, faculty, staff, technical service personnel or students -- may submit a nomination. Penn State has many staff members who provide extraordinary service to the University, campus visitors and co-workers. Through the Staff Recognition and Appreciation Program, USAC aims to honor those staff members who regularly see potential in others, go the extra mile in a specific situation and simply make life better for those around them.

Each nomination is considered on its own merit with no comparisons among nominees. With the University's large group of talented staff, examples of those who foster a more caring and thoughtful atmosphere are abundant. Through this recognition program, the USAC hopes to point out as many of those as possible. Nomination forms may be found on the USAC website at http://ohr.psu.edu/university-staff-advisory-council/usac-awards-nominat.... The deadline for nominations is March 14; honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony in May.

The University Staff Advisory Council, "the voice of Penn State staff," was created in 1995 and exists to explore issues, policies and practices that impact or are impacted by staff employees; suggests revisions or new initiatives to improve same; and serves as an advocate for staff welfare and development. The council acts in an advisory capacity to the central administration through the associate vice president for human resources.
