Penn State Beaver announces fall graduates

Penn State Beaver held its fall commencement on Friday, Dec. 20, in the Student Union Building auditorium. Thirty-eight students received baccalaureate, associate and nursing degrees.

The academic processional and recessional, and convention of proceedings were led by Tiffany MacQuarrie, instructor in English, and president of the Beaver campus Faculty Congress. Donna J. Kuga, director of academic affairs, presented degrees, which were conferred by Chancellor Gary B. Keefer in conjunction with John Feraco, president of the Beaver campus advisory board and manufacturing leader for NOVA Chemicals Inc.

The commencement speaker was Beaver campus alumnus Ted Froats Jr., senior public affairs specialist, news director and acting spokesperson for the U.S. Administration for Children and Families (ACF), a $60 billion federal agency with more than 1,000 employees. As a member of the United States Air Force for six years, he was a combat correspondent and television broadcaster as well as an audio/visual specialist.

Froats graduated in December 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Penn State Beaver and holds an associate degree in public affairs from the Community College of the U.S. Maxwell Air Force Base. He is working on his master’s degree in public administration at the University of Baltimore and will graduate in May 2015.
