UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- In his 35th season at the helm of the Penn State women's volleyball team, head coach Russ Rose has been selected as the 2013 AVCA Division I Coach of the Year, as announced by the organization Thursday (Dec. 19) afternoon. The award is the fifth time Rose has been honored as the national coach of the year during his tenure at Penn State, having earned the award in 1990, 1997, 2007 and 2008.

Rose has guided the 2013 squad to a 32-2 overall record. In conference play the Nittany Lions posted a 19-1 mark, good for PSU's 16th Big Ten Championship in program history. Rose picked up both Big Ten and AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors this year. He has also mentored at least one AVCA All-American in 34 of his 35 seasons at Penn State, including five in 2013 alone.

After earning victory number 1,100 against Yale earlier this season, head coach Russ Rose moved into sole possession of second place on the NCAA DI wins list win number 1,107 at Northwestern. With the triumph, Rose passed former UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski, who previously owned the record. With 1,123 wins, Rose is presently five wins shy of tying current Hawaii head coach Dave Shoji for first on the all-time list. He is also one of only three active DI coaches to have more than 1,000 career wins.
