Kate Harley turns Target internship into executive position

Kate Harley will graduate with not only a bachelor of science degree in business, but a full-time Executive Team Leader position at Target.

It all began when Harley met with Target during a Penn State Berks career fair, interviewed with the company, and was accepted for the internship, which she completed the summer of her junior year, working 10 weeks for 40 hours a week.

At the end of the internship, all the interns in the district had to present an operational review to a group of 25 Store Team Leaders and District Leaders. Then the leaders met to choose one intern to offer an Executive Team Leader position to upon graduation. Harley received the call offering her the position the following week. Although she had already been offered the position, she remained at Target for an extended internship throughout her senior year, focusing on human resources.

In addition, Harley is graduating one semester early due to all her hard work and taking a few extra credits each semester. While a student at Penn State Berks, she was a Lion Ambassador, an Orientation Leader, a peer mentor, a member of the softball team, and participated in Alternative Spring Break, where students volunteer in areas affected by poverty or natural disaster. She also participated in THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, with proceeds benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund at the Hershey Medical Center.
